From the FAQ of the FTC's National Do Not Call List:

"10. Can I register my cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry?

Yes, you may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has accepted cell phone numbers since it opened for registrations in June 2003. There is no deadline to register a home or cell phone number on the Registry.

You may have received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case. FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers don’t call consumers on their cell phones without their consent."

This wouldn't be the first time the media has been fooled, but even googling it comes up urban legends pages lol.

It's simple to get yourself off the list...

take a sales call, and answer it. Tell them to wait a minute, as someone is at the door (you can lie, can't you?). Set the phone down, and leave it. The telemarketer will wait for you to answer the phone again (as they are human, and would rather sit and do nothing than call other persons). Wait an hour or more, and answer the phone saying you have to go.

I did this once I was getting about 2 every other day from the same company. Called me 3 times, and I gave them 4+hours of phone bills.

No more calls since...

I do this with my sisters friends as well
All her crappy little teenage friends, "Hello is heather there?" Me.. " Sure I'll go get her" *sets phone down for a couple of hours*.. One time i barracaded my door when her friend came over, litterally.. I pushed my dresser in front of the door
